Dr. Mellas is the senior member of the group having started in private practice in 1986. He later joined with Dr. Garcia to form Nephrology and Hypertension Specialists in 1997. From there the group grew to its present physician members and staff.

Dr. Mellas is an expert clinician and diagnostician in all aspects of kidney diseases. He has lectured extensively to physicians and trainees and has won numerous teaching awards over the years.

He has most recently developed a unique method for accurately determining the extent of kidney damage in patients with acute kidney injury. This method has been published in several scientific journals and has been presented in lectures to various physician groups, universities and medical conferences throughout the United States and Europe.
